Use of Gender Stereotypes in Advertising Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Utilization of Gender Stereotypes in Advertising - Essay Example Sexual orientation generalizing in the ads has gotten one of the serious issues seen. For some, it is an off-base and unsatisfactory path since it gives an off-base feeling of significant worth to the individuals for narrow minded reasons. Then again, the gatherings of individuals who use sex generalizing contend that it is to contact the focused on crowd and not to unethically hurt the general public. The issues emerge frequently and the discussion goes on. Note that commercials depend on generalizations, and in spite of what the general public presents, sex generalizations assume the solid job. The advanced society has been formed by the media that encompasses us. The primary reason why sponsors use generalizations is to make their message more grounded and contact the focused on crowd. They additionally think this makes sure about the generalizations in the general public and depicts their situation in the general public. Be that as it may, it likewise causes an opposite impact as indicated by numerous therapists. They state these notices speak to the sexual orientations in the general public as they exist characteristically, and furthermore cause these gatherings to be affected to remain pressed inside their generalized molds. The notice of Weight Watchers is a case of how sex generalizations are ordinarily utilized in commercials. They have the viewpoint of taking a gander at people so diversely that they have utilized two separate notices so as to target them. The commercial for ladies propelled the ‘Weight Watchers 360’ program and the promotion for men propelled the ‘Lose like a Man’ program. The program for ladies was cliché as it concentrated on the capacity of the client to, on occasion, eat what they needed, for example, chocolates. For men the program utilized the methodology enabling them to now and then eat a portion of their top picks and still get in shape, for example, pizza, burgers and so forth. The commercial coul dn't have gotten progressively cliché where it situated various strategies for the two sexes, put the sexes in their generalized jobs and impacted the general public to tail them. The connection between the media and the general public isn't reasonable. It is seen that ladies face unreasonable cliché pressure, however for the most part men endure the equivalent. Sexual orientation generalizing in promotions is normally debilitated in light of the fact that it authorizes negative and bogus suspicions in the general public through depicting crowds on TV, online life or boards. For childish reasons publicists utilize these gatherings and make wrong qualities in the brains of individuals in the general public. Mental reasons are the most significant ones on account of which generalizing in commercials are unethical and hurtful. The promotion may help the focused on crowd to remember any occurrences that they experienced, and impact to consider them ordinary. Sponsors sell their items through focusing on the brain science where the crowd begins to feel they really do not have those supposed characteristics (Browne, 2011, p. 33). Ads influence individuals consistently such that they don't understand. These commercials depict an optimistic reality which a great many people don't know about. The objectives and targets accomplished by the publicists cause serious negative conditions in the general public. Clinicians state that ladies are helped to remember the negative generalizations before they play out any activity or movement. The generalized promotions make a misrepresented form of a particular gathering or sexual orientation and they present it as typical. This influences the brain science of individuals who are being focused on and they are persuaded to purchase the item as well as begin trusting themselves to be typically irregular.

Strategic Human Resource Management Academy

Question: Discuss about the Strategic Human Resource Management Academy. Answer: Introduction Human resource planning is an important concept to predict the future requirements of human resources needed for an organization as well as to examine that how the existing human resource can be used to fulfill its objectives (Weatherly, 2004). Nowadays, human resource planning is actively utilized for the effective complexion of big and complex projects to taking with political considerations into account. The main aim of this essay is to determine the significance of human resource planning for the successful complexion of large scale and complex projects especially where political considerations exist (Armstrong, 2006). This essay would determine some major political constraints and issues that may come in the way of efficient human resource planning of an organization. Effective Strategic HR Planning Human resource planning is a simple procedure to analyze HR requirements to make sure that the current number of employees matches the required skills while strategic human resource planning is quite different. It is the determination of the overall organizational objective and a proper mechanism to attain its major goals (Bernadin, 2007). In this regard, requirement and availability are two important component of human resource planning and strategic human resource planning is considered to be an important component of HR management. Its main objective is to provide sufficient human resources to meet the strategic goal of a firm and provide the right people with the right skills at the right time to attain organizational objectives with an ease (Mathis and Jackson, 2010). Strategic HR planning is a step by step process to determine the mechanism to pursue long term goals of an organization with the help of available resources. It is an important approach to analyze the opportunities and threats to examine all the political constraints in the environment with the main aim to enhance the efficiency and productivity of an organization (Paauwe, 2004). On the contrary to this, human resource planning is basically the estimation of future requirement to analyze the demand and supply of human resources to attain organizational goals without any kind of major difficulty. Nowadays, both HR planning and strategic HR planning is used for the effective complexion of big and giant projects of an organization. It has been analyzed that organizations are now juggling with some major HRM issues like high staff turnover, tight labor market, skills shortages, ageing population and diversity. Organizations are required to become strategic and competitive in the global market place to deal with these issues (Storey, 2007). Due to the presence of political complexities and constantly changing government norms make it difficult for companies to manage its employees and organizational activities in an effective manner. Among all the HRM challenges, rapidly changing worker profile is a big challenge. This is because the presence of demographic changes across the world is putting major pressure on the government as well as the private sector to implement creative solutions to educate and retain a diverse workforce with an ease (Wright, et al., 2005). For instance, male employees had a major ratio at their workplace but the government in many countries has made it mandatory to hire equal number of female employees at workplace and provide special privileges to them such as maternity leave. To overcome this issue, organizations should now impartial in terms of gender of their employees and promote their employees as per their caliber instead of their sexuality. Apart from this, it is believed that ageing population is likely to pose a major challenge for the business world across the globe. This is because preparing the young generation for the workplace as there are great chances that young people may leave the workplace permanently producing a lost generation in countries with higher number of employment rates. Another major HR change is to retain and engage a changing workforce as it is not a cake walk to recruit potential employees. This is because HR of a company has to make sure that its staff is committed and productive and may not leave the organization after a short span of time so that companys substantial turnover costs and invested training may not get wasted (Paauwe, 2004). To compete in such highly competitive global era, HR needs to overcome this issue by implementing effective retention activities and providing workplace satisfaction to its employees. On the contrary to this, hiring and retaining talent while reducing the labor cost is a major challenge before the HR of a company. This issue can be overcome by strategically implementing the significant strategies. Henceforth, organizations can be strategic and competitive in the global market place by preparing for the future and staying with the laws in order to avoid any legal obligation (Mathis and Jackson, 2010). HR Planning and Project Management HR planning plays a significant role in the successful execution of a companys project. It is the responsibility of project managers to determine the resources needed to conduct a project successfully. It is his duty to manage the overall activity of a project by ensuring the optimum utilization of resources so that money may not get wasted. In this way, proper human resource planning is done to define the roles and responsibilities of team members to make them perform their duty well. It is notable that a complex large scale project depends heavily on skilled manual labor along with other resources, and thus to apply a good HR planning is necessary in big projects (Mathis and Jackson, 2010). HR planning is often considered as nuisance and as a secondary function which does not add directly to the accomplishment of project objectives. In the viewpoint of Loosemore, Dainty Lingard (2003), there are innumerable examples of corporate and long term project crises, which have political considerations that are the result of lack of HR planning. One such example is of Queensland rail disruption, in which numerous numbers of commuters suffered because 100 trains cancelled in Brisbane, due to lack of staff that can drive trains. This aspect really annoyed the customers and impacted the goodwill of firm due to sudden cancellations of trains. Due to the characteristics of large scale complex projects that have political consideration and different project participants, the need to implement HR planning becomes crucial for managing relationships among project members, enhancing team performance and encouraging value for individuals. HR planning help human resource managers in considering different factors while constituting and implementing HRM strategies and practices at the large scale project (Armstrong, 2006). With respect to the Queensland rail disruptions, it is noteworthy that the rail network was under-resourced and not prepared for the novel Redcliffe Peninsular line. This was the outcome of ineffective HR planning because if the management would have done HR plan effectively, there will not be any shortage of skilled human resources (ABC News, 2016). This is because HR planning helps in managing human resources by guaranteeing ample supply of human resources, ensuring their proper usage and timely analysis of any surplus or shortage of human resources for addressing the needs of the project. Queensland Rail required more manpower, which was not available due to lack of HR planning. Queensland Rail had impractical assumptions of the train crew needed to run the new timetable, but is there have been HR planning, Queensland Rail would have been able to manage necessary staff at right time without any delay (Aslam, et al., 2013). It is true that large scale project management is quite a complex process but effective HR planning is like a ladder to ensure the success of a complex project, particularly which has HR considerations. The Resource-Based View (RBV) of the Firm The resource-based view (RBV) is an approach that considers resources as the key to superior organizational performance. As pet the RBV approach, it is necessary for companies to look inside and find sources of competitive advantage, rather than looking outside. The supporters of resource-based view of SHRM argue that human resources are a sparse, precious, organization-specific and difficult-to-imitate resource or strategic asset for companies (Colbert, 2004). RBV gives emphasis to the fact that it is the assortment and exploitation of an organizations resources, including human resources that give an organization its source of competitive advantage and its uniqueness. Therefore, the RBV considers the HR function in an organization as the chief strategic player in creating sustainable competitive advantage and the human resources of an organization as the chief assets for maintaining sustainable competitive advantage (Barney, 1991). It is notable that RBV emphasizes and directs effective HR planning. This is because it suggests that to make sure that human resources or HR function generate sustainable competitive advantage, firms need to guarantee that they are organized so that they can capitalize on their human resources. This demands focusing on horizontal integration, or incorporated, logical systems of HR practices, instead of individual practices, that allow employees to attain their potential at fullest (Barney, 2001). For this organizations needs to make sure that their HR practices and policies are coherent and coordinated, rather than being contradictory from other organizational practices. In this manner, RBV guides in effective HR planning because it helps organizations to focus on their human resources and consider them as a significant part of their planning and implementation process (Conner, 1991). The powerful and clear connection to the RBV serves the SHRM field in twofold manner; it forefronts the role of human resources in questions of strategy by enhancing the significance of research and practice in SHRM, and secondly it persuades a more specific focus for HRM. The RBV is of pertinence because it encourages the fact that human resources should not be considered as the core of every strategic move in an organization, but along with it is also essential to clearly state their duties in the HR plan of the organization (Grant, 1991). RBV supports that an organization should utilizes its human resources effectively for attaining objectives and the HR plan helps in the effective utilization of human resources by assessing and recruiting skilled personnel and addressing the manpower requirements of a firm. With reference to large scale, complex projects, it is noteworthy that if the project managers should have consider internal resources crucial along with the external forces it becomes difficult to manage the project in an effective manner and yield outcomes within specified timeframe (Helfat and Peteraf, 2003). Since, the RBV emphasizes on the role of human capital for attaining competitive advantage, it ultimately points towards the role of HR planning. Moreover, it is substantial to note that there has been a lack of skilled, qualified and talented human resources for projects and organizations, and HR planning helps in dealing with this scarcity of human resources ensuring adequate supply of manpower, ensuring their appropriate usage, assessing any surplus or shortage and forecasting future requirements (Aslam, et al., 2013). Conclusion To conclude, it can be stated that in the current report it has been argued that human resource (HR) planning is crucial for the successful complexion of large scale, complex projects, especially where political considerations exist. It has been stated that HR planning covers numerous vital goals and responsibilities, including appointing talented staff, managing payroll and employee policies along with employee training programs and so on. An HR plan helps in addressing both the tactical and strategic requirements of a large scale complex project. In order to emphasize the significance of HR planning in large scale, complex projects where political considerations exists, the example of Queensland Railway has been used. In this project, required project outcomes could not be attained because of ineffective HR planning that lead to lack of drivers availability at the right time. Moreover, the report has also included the Resource Based View (RBV), which also emphasizes on the role of internal resources, especially human resources for attaining sustainable competitive advantage. Overall, it has been argued in the paper that human resources are the strategic assets and HR planning is the strategic function and both holds enormous importance in large scale, complex projects, especially where political considerations exist. Economic Models Essays - Labour Economics, Keynesian Economics

Economic Models The Classical model of the economy says that all markets always clear. The labor market failing to clear does not exist in the Classical model because of competitive exchange equilibrium in which prices and quantities always adjust perfectly. The Classical model is of a closed economy and the variables are real output, employment, real and nominal wages, the price level, and the rate of interest. It is easier to understand the classical model using five diagrams that are numbered one through five in Appendix One, The Classical Model. These diagrams represent the separate parts of the model that together illustrate, for the most part, the entire Classical model. Diagram one represents the production function, which shows the assumption that real output, y, is determined by the level of employment, N. So y is a function of N and from the slope of the function we can see that output rises as employment is increased. But there is a diminishing marginal productivity of labor, which means that each time employment increases, the increase in output will get smaller and smaller. Diagram one illustrates the relationship between output and employment in the short run, but does not determine the level of output or the level of employment. But when used together with other diagrams of the model, diagram one can be used to figure these things out. Diagram two is the labor market with the real wage, w, on the vertical axis and employment, N, on the horizontal axis. In the classical model, the supply of labor depends upon the real-wage level because as the real wage rises, more people are willing to work. The line SN represents the labor supply function and the line DN represents the demand for labor. As the real wage increases so does the labor supply function, but as the labor supply function increases, the demand for labor decreases. Because the Classical model makes real wages perfectly flexible and allows it to adjust to the level that clears the labor market, the real wage and the level of employment can be figured out by using diagram two. Once given the level of employment determined from diagram two, it is possible to use diagram one to figure out the level of output. So diagrams one and two, also know as the real sector, can be used to determine employment, real output, and the real wage without any knowledge of the monetary sector of the classical model. The monetary sector, given the level of real output, determines only the monetary or nominal variables such as the price level and the money wage. The separate treatment of the monetary sector and real sector is known as the 'Classical dichotomy.' To complete the model, diagrams three, four, and five are needed. Diagram three represents the Classical aggregate demand curve, which shows the relationship between real aggregate demand for output, y, on the horizontal axis, and the price level P, on the vertical axis. Real aggregate demand represents the sum of the demands for output of all the individuals in the economy. The Classical aggregate demand curve, AD, illustrates the level of aggregate demand for a given price level. Since the government or the central bank can control the quantity of money in circulation, it also controls the position of the Classical aggregate demand curve. But it can only control the price level and other nominal variables because it is independent of the monetary sector. The full understanding of the classical model comes with diagrams four and five, which consider money-wage determination and interest rate determination respectively. In diagram four, the real wage, w, is defined as the money wage, W, divided by the price level, P. For this reason there is a relationship between money wages and the price level which results in a straight line through the origin that corresponds to the real wage. The higher the price level, the higher the money wage must be to maintain any given real wage. Diagram five determines the interest rate, r, which is expressed as a percentage per period and depends upon the interaction of the savings and investment functions. The investment function, I, shows that the lower the rate of interest, the higher the amount of investment. The savings function, S, shows that the higher the rate of interest, the more will be saved. Because of the Classical dichotomy, diagram five is basically to show the breakdown of the use of income, or the demand for output, between expenditure on consumption and new capital goods. Like the Classical model,

Free Essays on Battle Of The Sexes

One of the conflicting issues that helps keep the world revolving is the difference between the male and female sex. For centuries, the conflict that arises from each sex’s differences has caused disputes and quarrels that stem from the inability to understand the characteristics of men and women. In Houston’s story, the differences in genders are depicted in a scenario that gives rise to clashes between the male and female sex. Men and women both have their differences in viewpoints and tendencies, but it is through those discrepancies and experiences when dealing with the differences that perspective is gained. Houston’s story, â€Å"How to Talk to a Hunter†, gives many examples of the differences between men and women, and shows how those differences lead to conflict. She is also submissive to her husband which is a gender trait that is apparent in many women in society, however is a trait that is conflicting for some women and is made an issue that has been fought to be overcome for centuries. Though both sexes enjoy playing the game of love, some aspects that each sex has defined for themselves has led to the label that men are narrow-minded and cannot see outside the box. This means that once they have their heart set on one thing, nothing else seems to matter and they are not open to the possibilities that surround them. Houston stresses not only the emotional differences between men and women, but also the mental differences between them. This illustrates the inner desire of men that is exposed only in the privacy of one’s home.... The influence of media of Europe and United States America on Middle Essay

The influence of media of Europe and United States America on Middle East and compare the usage - Essay Example Middle East media, particularly in areas of satellite televisions, which eventually raises pertinent questions in regards to the nature and influence of this information explosion. According to Pollack (2011 p.45), tensions between United State and the European Union have been occurring repeatedly since the 2003 Iraq war. It eventually ended up affecting the many areas of the Middle East policy as a result of media coverage. However, none of these states has been able to encapsulate on these tensions as compared to the quest of achieving advanced democracy in the region. The aim of writing this paper is to examine the role of contemporary media coverage, especially television, from both the European and United States America sources on Middle East while also comparing the usage. According to Wehrey (2010), the Middle East region remains to be one of the most cultural and the political intricate regions through the entire world. The Middle East region operates with three religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, whereby all of them trace their origins to the Middle East. Through the presence of rich and diversified cultural history, the Middle East region of today is struggling to find a balance between the â€Å"western† culture and modernization. Most of the influence comes from United States media and the other from European media, with the traditional and religious values of the Middle East region. In some part, due to the struggle and the existent region’s diversity, the media is occupying a special place in the Middle Easter society and its related politics. Bennett & Paletz (1994) also present their views that the media influences all works of life and exercise a profound and an incalculable influence. Coverage on some significant issues such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is an area that occupies the center stage of the media, with the dissatisfaction fed by the media retaining the capacity of spilling out into the street. It is apparent that

Marketing communication plan Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Marketing communication plan - Essay Example personal selection in the premium brand market (Pride and Ferrell, 2006) and this has been affecting the external, internal and competitor business contexts. Fuel price continues to increase and it always tends to impact the business opportunities of car manufacturers. However, it opens up new marketing opportunities for BMW hybrid and hydrogen cars since consumers tend to increasingly shift towards cheaper fuel types. Annual Report (2013) states that the hybrid technology, along with its focus on increasing electrification, helps the company take a leading role in lowering of carbon emissions and fuel consumption. An effective marketing communication will certainly help BMW to attract millions of customers worldwide to its cars. There is growing interest towards ‘green’ products that cause no harm or relatively less harm to human health and his nature. People are becoming more concerned about green products (Soni, 2013). As consumers are more aware about negative impacts of air pollution caused by vehicles, they show interest towards green vehicles. It seems to be an opportunity for BMW cars for its hybrid and hydrogen cars. In 2013, the number of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold globally has been increased by 5.1 percent to reach to 76.5 million units, mainly driven by increased demands in USA and China (Annual Report, 2013). In UK, the car market has remained in good shape, being boosted by a surprisingly strong economic recovery. The UK car market grew by 10.8 percent to reach 2.3 million units of cars and light vehicles. This showed greater opportunity for BMW mainly for its highly differentiated cars. In order to exploit this emerging market opportunities, the marketing team of BMW will need to communicate regarding its product variants and unique value propositions it offers to its targeted audiences. It is undeniably accepted that BMW is a strong brand as its appeal has created a sense of uniqueness among marketing channel members

Orthodox Jewish Wedding Essay Example for Free

Orthodox Jewish Wedding Essay Marriage is normally a ceremony done in churches, in government premises, or in modern ones like beaches and gardens. It is usually done as a sign of love between two people. Marriage used to be a very sacred ceremony as two people say their vows to each other. Different cultures do this in different manners. In this paper, we will discover how the Orthodox Jewish wedding is done. This would prove the diversity of cultures in the world and how the Jewish community carries out their traditions and belief. This is divided into three parts that include the preparations done before the wedding, the set up days before the wedding and the wedding proper. When two people fall in love, what they want to end up mostly is a bride and a groom or a husband and a wife. Although it is altered by some other reasons in the modern times, the idea of marriage is still considered sacred by most of us. Although socio-economic status, health, dynasty and other things affect the people’s view on marriage, we still cannot take away the fact that the people who get married always ask for a happy life. Whatever reason they may have, the bottom line is still that they are searching for contentment in any way. A Jewish wedding day, the same with all other religions, is something that they really celebrate. Different kinds of rituals happen weeks before and during this day, in consideration of their history and heritage. As soon as the couple gets engaged, rituals already take place. It includes breaking a plate to represent the temples in Jerusalem that were destructed. It is to signify that even if they are enjoying in the celebration of the wedding, they are still saddened with the fact that these temples were destroyed before. It is also usual for the parents to do the arrangement of the wedding, with the help of someone like a match-maker called Yenta. Although this is so, the groom is still required to ask the bride’s father for her hand in marriage and to pay a dowry in exchange of the bride (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. bbc. co. uk/religion/religions/judaism/rites/weddings_1. shtml). Judaism sees this practice as sacred. They think that without a man and a woman, each of the sexes will never be complete. They complement each other and each compensates what the other loses. They also teach in their doctrines that any person without getting married doesn’t experience the absolute joy and contentment in this life. It means that being married gives satisfaction to people, especially when they are blessed by God. When referring to marriage, they usually use the term â€Å"sanctification† which usually refers to the spirituality of the bond that binds two people and of the commandment made by God. They also see it as something that has a purpose. They view marriage as a perquisite to reproduction and friendship. It is both procreation and companionship. In the bible, as they believe, â€Å"It is not good for a man to be alone†. It is also a practice of each person’s legal rights through a contractual agreement where they sign on. Although there were times when the Jews were dispersed all over the world, they are still successful in preserving this practice as they live. This is probably because they really believe in the practice, because through it, history proves that families stayed stable and happy when they underwent the same kind of marriage . Jewish weddings are almost the same. They are made easier by the Rabbis by asking for a very minimal requirement. The Rabbis is the one who makes the laws in this kind of ritual (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. confetti. co. uk/article/view/5054-7598-0-). Marriage in the Orthodox Jewish is very much full of traditions that show practice and devotion. In planning their weddings, every detail is very important. They take the preparation as a challenge of their capacity and a challenge to celebrate the wedding successfully. They pay too much attention to all the needs of the ceremony that makes every wedding a perfect one. The Orthodox Jews are believed to be the strictest among the strands of the Jewish faith. Their wedding ceremony is done by combining the legal and religious aspects of marriage. In case one of the couple is non-Jewish, he or she is asked to convert to the same religion. They believe that happiness cannot be achieved if they don’t undergo marriage, which is a license to fulfillment in the world. Also, it is said that when they get married, they don’t just focus on material and temporal elements of the preparation, but they also assure that their doctrines are properly carried out and that their spiritual and moral preparedness is enveloped on the marriage itself. It just proves that although their marriage is after a good life on earth, they still put in more consideration the supernatural and their religion per se (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. confetti. co. uk/article/view/5054-7598-0-). Planning an Orthodox Jewish wedding is very tedious. They must consider a lot of things for them to be able to come up with a successful one. Most of the Jewish couple provides a planner that would make it easier for them to see chronologically their plans and the specifics of the ceremony. Through that, they will be able to get organized and efficient in the planning of the main event. The date of the wedding is usually known after they already register with a synagogue and Rabbi at the Chief Rabbi’s office. The time of the day and the day itself are also given much attention to in planning a wedding. It is usual to marry in the afternoon or in the evening, but you can also marry anytime of the day according to what the couple desires. Most of them, however, choose to marry on days like Sunday and Tuesday. It is also not allowed to do the wedding three weeks between July and August and on the Sabbath of festival days (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover Shavuot, and Sukkoth). In case, they want to get married on a Saturday, they prohibit doing the ceremony earlier than two hours before the sun is down (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. onfetti. co. uk/article/view/5054-7598-0-). In general, the first thing to do in planning it is to choose a date that they both want. They usually choose special days like the birth or the death of their rabbis to make a more meaningful celebration. Like other people getting married, they choose a date that means something to them or a date that is significant in their relationship. They also must specify a place or a venue which has enough space for dancing and a wide area where you can put a divider to separate men and women for modesty’s sake. They are very much particular with modesty which they can prove by separating people of different sexes during the wedding ceremony. They must also choose a rabbi to preside the wedding ceremony and a sofer or a Jewish scribe to take charge of the Ketuba or the marriage contract. After that, they must tell their relatives and friends about the wedding and invite them to attend on it. Attendees on this kind of practice matters a lot to the couple because the wedding would not mean anything at all without the presence of a specific number of people. Once they confirm their attendance, they can already inform the caterer about the approximate number of visitors. This is usually done to avoid hassles to both families of the groom and the bride and to assure that everyone eats enough as they celebrate that most important part of their couple life. After that, they must inform those people who are taking part in the wedding to dress accordingly. This is also a sign of respect to the practice. The female ones must use clothes covering the knees and the arms to the elbows, while the married ones must cover their air. Men must wear yarmulkes. The couple must make the wedding canopy from a cloth that is velvet or from a prayer shawl. This is to signify the clouds that helped Jews with everything when they were in the desert. They must make sure that they have the dress, rings without anything engraved in them, and the other things. The bride must make sure she has a veil thicker than the others’ to wear it on the wedding day. From that, they must find a schedule to do the veiling ritual prior the wedding ceremony. It is said that such a practice symbolizes the biblical story that happened between Jacob and Rachel, when they planned to get married. They must assign seven men to utter the words of blessings with a wine. Lastly, they must secure a room for the couple where they can spend on after the wedding proper. They are expected to stay there before they eat and spend time together alone for a certain period (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. ehow. com/how_2077192_plan-orthodox-jewish-wedding. html). The wedding invitation is usually two sided and has an English translation at the right side. It does not ask for the person’s presence, instead it is asking people to â€Å"dance at† or â€Å"share in the joy of†. In this kind of ritual, visitors are very important, because they play a very vital role in the process. The copies of the invitation may be distributed and may be given by the couple or both of their parents. Sometimes, the invitation also includes biblical quotes to explain people why such thing is done or to further elaborate the importance of each part of the program (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. weddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). All of the guests are provided with copy of the program for them to know exactly what part they are in during the wedding proper. It may also include some Ketuba texts, the vendors’ names, a note coming from the bridal couple and some explanations of the different elements of the ceremony. This is also done to avoid unnecessary noises when they ask others why a particular thing is done (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. weddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). The Orthodox bride must prepare something white, while the groom must have a short white linen robe called a kittel. The bride is also expected to visit mikyah in the morning of her wedding. This is done to make sure that the bride undergoes a ritual bath that is believed to purify her and to make her a better woman as she gets married (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. weddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). It is also a must, that in able for a couple to get married in the Orthodox Jewish tradition, it is a perquisite that their parents also married in the same manner. Usually, both of their parents underwent the same practice. If in case their parents did not undergo the practice, they must talk to the rabbi for clarification. The ceremony includes singing and reading from the psalms. The wedding usually takes an hour before it finally ends. The wedding can actually occur anywhere, depending on what the groom and the bride choose. Given a desired venue, the bride or the Kallah and the groom or the Chatan, must stand under a canopy. The venue as chosen by them is usually paid by the bride’s parents. The validity of the wedding depends on the number of males present. There must e ten of them, which in their tradition, is called minyan (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. confetti. co. uk/article/view/5054-7598-0-). Prior to the ceremony, the groom may spend time with his friends as eat and drink together on a table, called chassans tisch. Brides, on the other hand, take three or seven times circling her groom which is also a practice based on their bible (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. weddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). When the guests arrive on the wedding day, males go with the groom in a certain room, while the female ones go with the bride in another room where she sits on a throne-type chair. This is called â€Å"public beckoning† and may be spent with just family and other guests (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. eddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). A service usually starts with the opening from the rabbi, followed by a bride being escorted to the canopy. It is then followed by a ritual of circling the groom by the bride. This also has a hidden meaning. The benedictions are read after and then the sharing of the cup of wine. The exchange of the rings is then done, followed by the reading of ketuba. Another cup of wine is offered which is shared by the groom and the bride. It was first blessed and told with a prayer for the companionship and joy of the newly wed. Later on, they are proclaimed as husband and wife and they are showered with rice and are greeted with a toast (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. weddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). During the marriage proper, the groom is asked to read from the Torah. That ritual is called Aufruf. Further, it is like a way of congratulating the couple, and letting the public know that they are getting married soon. In the same practice, some brides throw candies and nuts as he finishes the recitation of the benedictions. Through that, they are able to ask for a sweet and fertile life. The groom gives his bride a ring that is a sign of love. It is put on the bride’s right index finger, up to the second knuckle. It is so, because they believe that such a finger points to the soul and that it is used in pointing when they are reading the Torah. On the contrary, she puts the ring on his left ring finger. As they are doing this, they are reciting a Hebrew statement called haray aht (Retrieved on December 11, 2008 from http://www. weddingdetails. com/lore/jewish. cfm). In summary, preparing for the Orthodox Jewish Wedding is no easy thing. It requires a lot of effort to come up with an acceptable wedding that takes in consideration both the earthly and the religious aspect of life. Through this paper, we can also picture that even if there are still more days before the wedding, the people are already busy planning the event and are already doing some practices for the benefit of the big day. The wedding proper shows that values of these people as they do the rituals associated with getting married. It is also very obvious that they are really trying hard to avoid getting away from the proper way of doing it. Before and after the wedding, they are very optimistic about their, because of their trust to the Almighty. Egypt: The Gift Of The Nile :: essays research papers

The Nile, is the longest river in the world, and is located in northeastern Africa. Its principal source is Lake Victoria, in east central Africa. The Nile flows north through Uganda, Sudan, and Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea, with a total distance of 5584 km. From its remotest headstream in Burundi, the river is 6671 km long. The river basin covers an area of more than 3,349,000 sq km. Not only is the Nile considered a wonder by Herodotus, but by people all over the world, due to its impotance to the growth of a civilization. The first great African civilization developed in the northern Nile Valley in about 5000 BC. Dependent on agriculture, this state, called Egypt, relied on the flooding of the Nile for irrigation and new soils. It dominated vast areas of northeastern Africa for millennia. Ruled by Egypt for about 1800 years, the Kush region of northern Sudan subjugated Egypt in the 8th century BC. Pyramids, temples, and other monuments of these civilizations blanket the river valley in Egypt and northern Sudan. To Egypt, the Nile is seen as the fountain of life. Every year, between the months of June and October, the great rivers of the Nile rush north, and flood the highlands of Etiopia. The flooding surges of the land, and leaves behind water for the people, and fertile land, which can be used for agriculture. The impact the Nile has on Egypt during the ancient times and present are consierably apparent. The influence the Nile has is so extensive, that even the speech is transposed. For example, "To go north" in the Egyption language is the same as, "to go down stream"; "to go south" the same as "to go upstream." Also, the term for a "foreign country" in Egypt would be used as "highland" or "desert", because the only mountains or deserts would be far away, and foreign to them. The Nile certainly had an exceptional influence on Egypts, both lifestyle and thinking. The Nile also forced a change on the political system and ruling in Egypt. Because of the vast floods every year, the country needed a ruler that was capable of enforcing of the farmings and methods used. Such as the hoarding of the water and the stocking of the food harvested. Second, only a stongly cetralized administration could manafe the economy properly.

Dangling Wires and Meatworks Poetry Essay

Through the medium of poetry, composers are able to powerfully convey ideas and express personal opinions of the world around them. Robert Gray, an Australian poet who is known for his effective use of visual imagery, clearly evokes ideas and express personal concerns of ‘Global warming’ ‘sacrafice’ His incorporation of explicit language techniques, such as diction further accentuates his perspective towards the world around us. Flames, Dangling wires and Meatworks are a great examples of how Gray uses language devices to powerfully voice his opinions. Gray is a poet with many opinions and ideas to express, he effectively puts these ideas through poetry. One of Grays many influential poems Flames, dangling wires is a great example of how he conveys his ideas and opinions in his poetry. Flames, dangling wires is a poem about a filthy dump tip that is always burning in front of a city. Gray describes the dump as a cause of our actions. In this poem Gray has effectively uses sensory imagery. â€Å"The smell is huge, blasting the mouth dry† A technique used in this text is sensory imagery which triggers our taste buds. The word blasting is the most noticeable word in this text, blasting is an uncommon word to describe a smell, it is unexpected. Gray is trying to say that there are no words to describe the smell, Gray’s intentions on using the word blasting is to disgust us and so that we understand more clearly on the situation. Throughout the poem gray is describing in detail how sickening the dump tip is, as we reach the end of them poem Gray discuses about the consequences from our actions. â€Å"This is how it shall be after the men have gone. † He is saying that the mess we make is not going away and that it is stuck with us forever. Gray is known for a lot of poems, his poems talk about danger, global warming, and in this case doing what it takes to provide for loved ones, Meatworks. Meatworks is a poem about a hardworking man and his wife moving to a place but they are tight on money but in order too keep his place he is forced to work in an abattoir, but doesn’t seem to enjoy it. In this poem Gray repeatedly and effectively describes the environment he’s in by using techniques such sensory imagery â€Å"Where concrete gutters crawled off heavily, and the hot, fertilizer thick, sticky stench of blood sent flies mad† . This ext has many techniques in it, the most effective technique used in this text is sensory imagery, Gray has effectively applied this technique in the line â€Å"The hot, fertilizer thick, sticky stench of blood sent flies mad† this sensory imagery immediately disgust us, planting a disturbing image in our heads. Flies are known to be around rotten food so when Gray added â€Å"sent flies mad† we have an idea of the imagery and can sort of imagine the smell. The text makes the audience understand that the abattoir is not a pleasant place to work at, and really demonstrates the sacrifice the man is giving to provide for his family. Gray is making us understand the sacrifice some people make everyday to provide for their loved ones. To conclude with, it is without doubt that Robert Gray clearly evokes his opinions and ideas on the world around him through his poetry. Opinions including social decline and global warming issues and that he effectively uses imagery in his poems Flames, dangling wire and Meatworks. It is also evident that gray brings issues concerning society and that what we do will eventually catch on to us.

Project management software is a term covering many types of software, including scheduling, cost control and budget management, resource allocation, collaboration software, communication, quality management and documentation or administration systems, which are used to deal with the complexity of large projects. 1 Tasks or activities of project management software 1.1 Scheduling One of the most common tasks is to schedule a series of events, and the complexity of this task can vary considerably depending on how the tool is used. Some common challenges include: †¢ Events which depend on one another in different ways or dependencies †¢ Scheduling people to work on, and resources required by, the various tasks commonly termed resource scheduling †¢ Dealing with uncertainties in the estimates of the duration of each task †¢ Arranging tasks to meet various deadlines †¢ Juggling multiple projects simultaneously to meet a variety of requirements 1.2 Calculating critical path In many complex schedules, there will be a critical path, or series of events that depend on each other, and whose durations directly determine the length of the whole project (see also critical chain). Some software applications (for example, Dependency Structure Matrix solutions) can highlight these tasks, which are often a good candidate for any optimization effort. 1.3 Providing information Project planning software needs to provide a lot of information to various people, to justify the time spent using it. Typical requirements might include: †¢ Tasks lists for people, and allocation schedules for resources †¢ Overview information on how long tasks will take to complete †¢ Early warning of any risks to the project †¢ Information on workload, for planning holidays †¢ Evidence †¢ Historical information on how projects have progressed, and in particular, how actual and planned performance are related †¢ Optimum utilization of available resource 2. Approaches to project management software 2.1 Desktop Project management software can be implemented as a program that runs on the desktop of each user. This typically gives the most responsive and graphically-intense style of interface. Desktop applications typically store their data in a file, although some have the ability to collaborate with other users (see below), or to store their data in a central database. Even a file-based project plan can be shared between users if its on a networked drive and only one user accesses it at a time. Desktop applications can be written to run in a heterogeneous environment of multiple operating systems, although its unusual. 2.2 Web-based Project management software can be implemented as a Web application, accessed through an intranet or extranet using a web browser. This has all the usual advantages and disadvantages of web applications: †¢ Can be accessed from any type of computer without installing software †¢ Ease of access-control †¢ Naturally multi-user †¢ Only one software version and installation to maintain †¢ Typically slower to respond than desktop applications †¢ Project information not available when the user (or server) is offline. †¢ Some packages do allow the user to go-offline 2.3 Personal A personal project management application is one used at home, typically to manage lifestyle or home projects. There is considerable overlap with single user systems, although personal project management software typically involves simpler interfaces. See also non-specialised tools below. 2.4 Single user A single-user system is programmed with the assumption that only one person will ever need to edit the project plan at once. This may be used in small companies, or ones where only a few people are involved in top-down project planning. Desktop applications generally fall into this category. 2.5 Collaborative A collaborative system is designed to support multiple users modifying different sections of the plan at once, for example, updating the areas they personally are responsible for such that those estimates get integrated into the overall plan. Web-based tools, including extranets, generally fall into this category, but have the limitation that they can only be used when the user has live Internet access. Some tools allow team members to check out their schedules (and others as read only) to work on them while not on the network. When reconnecting to the database, any changes are synchronized with the other schedules. 2.6 Integrated An integrated system combines project management or project planning, with many other aspects of company life. For example, projects can have bug tracking issues assigned to each project, the list of project customers becomes a customer relationship management module, and each person on the project plan has their own task lists, calendars, and messaging functionality associated with their projects. Microsoft Project Standard 2003 Trial software enables you to evaluate the product on your system before making a purchase decision. Trial versions contain all Microsoft Project features, but can only be used for a limited time. Microsoft Office Compatibility: †¢ Microsoft Office interface Navigate intuitively with the familiar Office interface. †¢ Excel and Outlook Import Easily import and leverage data from Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook to start a Microsoft Project plan. †¢ Smart Tags Get automatic, contextual suggestions alerting you of alternative scheduling options. †¢ Presentation Wizard Transfer project data smoothly to Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Visio. †¢ Add-In for Visio diagramming Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) chart in Visio from Project 2003 data. †¢ Built-in online help Use Office Online to get training, templates, and more. Planning and Tracking Tools: †¢ Gantt Charts, Calendars, Network Diagrams, and Task Sheets Present project data in versatile views. †¢ Additional project templates Jump-start common projects and promote consistency. †¢ Interactive, Step-By-Step Planning Aide Set up and manage projects effectively with the Project Guide. †¢ Multiple Baselines Track status over project life cycle with 11 full baselines. †¢ Add-In for comparing project files Compare two versions of the same project and report the results. Reporting and Information Sharing: †¢ Printing Wizard Easily format and print concise project plans. †¢ XML Reporting Wizard Generate an Extensible Markup Language (XML) file from project data to create custom reports. †¢ Project information sharing Share project-related documents using a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services workspace (Requires Microsoft Windows Server 2003). Resource Management: †¢ Resource availability graphs Evaluate resource workload and availability, and resolve over-allocations. †¢ Resource information import Import resource information from Microsoft Active Directory or a Microsoft Exchange address book.
